Kathy is a landscape painter who divides her time between Raleigh and Valle Crucis, NC. She grew up in the foothills of the North Carolina Mountains where she began studying art with her aunt when she was in the 6th grade. After attending Peace College in Raleigh and Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, Kathy graduated from UNC-Wilmington. She was fortunate enough to study with Claude Howell at UNC-W and later with Joe Cox in Oriental, NC as part of his summer workshops.
While maintaining a studio for many years, Kathy also worked in multiple capacities as an arts manager. She is now a full time professional artist who focuses on plein air painting. When painting on location, Kathy feels she is better able to absorb the light, color, textures, elements and emotion of the landscape. She also enjoys the people and animals she meets while on location. She is represented by The Art Cellar Gallery in Banner Elk, NC and The Little Art Gallery in Raleigh, NC.
Kathy’s paintings are in collections in North Carolina, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Maine, Texas, Colorado, New York, New Jersey, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, England and Puerto Rico.
